Thank you, Lowe’s, for choosing our Gales Ferry home to be one of the 2023 Lowe’s Hometowns projects!

The Gales Ferry renovation is a single-family home that was donated to Habitat many years ago, featuring original (1962) finishes, and extensive damage from a burst water pipe on the bottom floor.

When complete, most major aspects of the home will be brand new, including the entire exterior (roof, gutters, windows, siding), plumbing and heating, electrical, insulation, kitchen, and two bathrooms.

The house will make a wonderful Habitat home for our new homeowner family of six. It sits in a quiet, established neighborhood in a great school district, with a lovely yard for the kids to play in as they grow.

When the renovation costs were well beyond what was originally planned, we applied for the Lowe’s program hoping for assistance. We’re beyond fortunate to be one of the 100 that were chosen as part of the company’s largest-ever community impact program – a five-year, $100 million commitment to rebuild and revitalize community spaces nationwide and give back to the communities where we live and work.

Members of the Lowe’s team from the Killingly, Lisbon and Waterford stores, as well as the Lowe’s Distribution Center in Plainfield, pooled their resources and made a significant impact on the renovations by providing materials and tools, as well as volunteer labor from their talented employees. It was an especially impressive display as they worked with amazing energy through two cold, rainy days in a home without electricity.

It’s hard to express how much the Lowe’s locations in eastern Connecticut have meant to Habitat over the past couple of years, and we couldn’t be more grateful for them!
