I’m honored to represent Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut at the Habitat for Humanity International Executive Conference. It’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.

The housing market is broken. It’s a global issue. How can we combat this?

Homeownership. Access to homeownership is game-changing.

Families build equity while the constant stresses of being in an unstable, overpriced rental turn into confidence, and ultimately better performance in the workplace and at school. We see it happen every time we close on a home.

Here’s the thing…we can do more. I know there are so many more success stories in our future. I’m blessed with an amazing team that, with the support of our volunteers, doesn’t see limits or boundaries – they only see possibilities. We aim high. HFHECT is increasing home production, designing new forever homes, bringing together both established and new communities…and still just scratching the surface of our capabilities. If an opportunity presents itself, who knows how far we can take it?

I can’t wait to get back to our table, plan for the future, utilize the new tools at our disposal and come up with others that don’t quite exist yet. See you soon, Team.

Have an idea? Know a piece of property that could be someone’s new home? Think a building should be re-purposed as housing? Want to sit in a room where all these possibilities are discussed? Contact Tara at mission@habitatect.org to join a committee, a build, or just to come hang out at the office.

Join Our Volunteer Community

We are working hard to answer the demand for affordable housing in our local communities. Our goal is to finish more houses per year than ever before. That means that we need more volunteers!

RESTORE:

Revenue generated at the ReStores funds our operations and helps build more homes. Help stock shelves, move furniture, and more.

OFFICE and ADMINISTRATIVE:

The demand on our administrative team increases along with the number of homes produced. We have multiple committees that need more long-term volunteers willing to participate (at least two years). Most committees meet monthly and require a few hours of service in between meetings.

CONSTRUCTION:

With more houses planned in multiple locations, we need more weekly volunteers and group build days to keep up the pace with our construction schedules.

With all of the exciting work we have going on, there’s a way for everyone to get involved. Invite your friends and family to join you in your support of Habitat and get involved today.

Already a volunteer? Consider increasing your commitment by a day or more each week or month. Reach out today and say YES to more time working alongside us, increasing the availability of affordable housing in eastern Connecticut.
