what we're built from

At Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, we build more than houses — we build hope, we build possibility, we build the kind of future everyone deserves.

This blueprint represents more than just our website — it reflects the foundation of who we are: a community of neighbors working side by side to build strength, build stability, and build self-reliance through safe, stable housing.

Every part of this house, and every part of this site, is a piece of the story — of what we build together.

While our program focuses on helping individuals and families achieve affordable homeownership, we know not everyone is quite there — yet. That's why we're committed to supporting your journey, wherever you are along the housing continuum.

be part of what we're building

COMING SOON When you join our email list, you're not just staying in the loop - you're becoming part of the Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut community. From heartwarming homeowner stories and volunteer opportunities to upcoming events, ReStore deals, and project updates, our emails are a front-row seat to the impact we're building together.

Myth: “Habitat gives away free homes.”

Truth: Habitat isn’t a handout — it’s a partnership. Families work hard to purchase their homes through affordable mortgages, sweat equity, and financial education. Your support helps make that possible.

Myth: “Volunteers build the whole house.”

Truth: Our volunteers are amazing, but we also rely on licensed contractors, staff, and skilled tradespeople to make sure each home is built safely and sustainably.

Myth: “Habitat only helps families with kids.”

Truth: Our homeowners come from all walks of life: single adults, retirees, couples, and multigenerational households. If you meet the program’s criteria, your household makeup doesn’t limit you.

Myth: “Only big donors make a difference.”

Truth: Every gift matters. Whether it's $5, a used chair for the ReStore, or a few hours swinging a hammer - it all helps build homes, hope, and opportunity.

Myth: “The ReStore is just for people in need.”

Truth: The ReStore is for everyone! Whether you’re furnishing your first apartment, hunting for vintage finds, or doing a DIY project, every purchase supports Habitat’s mission to build affordable homes right here in eastern Connecticut.

Myth: “You have to be homeless to qualify.”

Truth: Habitat serves families who are living in unsafe, overcrowded, or unaffordable conditions and are ready for the responsibility of homeownership.

Myth: "No one wants my old car—it wouldn’t make it down I-95!"

Truth: Even if it’s not road-ready, your donated car can pave the way to safe, affordable housing. Through Habitat’s Cars for Homes program, vehicles of all conditions are turned into funding that supports local families across eastern Connecticut.

Myth: “The ReStores only accept junk.”

Truth: Our ReStores accept gently used, high-quality items, and you'll often find brand new goods at a fraction of the retail price. Shopping or donating here supports local builds, and saves furniture from the landfill.

Myth: “You need prior experience to volunteer.”

Truth: No experience? No problem! Whether you're swinging a hammer or sorting donations at the ReStore, our licensed and experienced team is here to guide you every step of the way. We provide all the training and support you need — you just bring the heart.

Myth: “There’s no training to prepare you for homeownership.”

Truth: Every Habitat homeowner attends workshops on budgeting, home maintenance, mortgage planning, and more. We want you to feel confident, capable, and supported long after you move in.
