220,000 Reason’s to Report to the Mayor’s Office
It’s quite special to be summoned to the Mayor’s office. The reason why is really awesome: to be presented with a check payable to Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut in the amount of $220,000.00. Why? Because Eversource Energy is keeping its promise and commitment to serve the communities it serves. Thank you Eversource.
Tom Dorsey, manager for government affairs at Eversource took time from his busy day to visit New London and present checks to HFHECT and two other like non-profits committed to building strong communities through affordable housing. The money comes through the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority’s Housing Tax Credit Contribution program. Eversource continues to be the leading purchaser of these credits in the state.
Since 2008, Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut has received more than $1.1 million dollars from Eversource, primarily through tax credits. This has supported the build of 15 homes. HFHECT’s most recent windfall from Eversource will support the build of an additional four homes and four hardworking families working hard to help themselves and achieve homeownership. Additionally, four communities will be strengthened by having four vacant, some blighted properties transformed into new homes for four local families well-prepared for homeownership (Montville, Mystic, New London and Sterling.)
Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut is deeply grateful for the partnership of Eversource Energy and its catalyzing support. Eversource exemplifies leadership by giving back to the communities where its customers and employees live and thrive.
